Our Story

In 2011 our family suffered a great loss when our beloved son, Matthew, lost a vicious battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Leaving us at just 20 years old, Matthew is remembered for his athleticism, bravery, quick wit, and boisterous personality.

It is through the sorrow of losing our son that the inspiration for Matthew’s Vineyard was born. Planted at our home where Matthew spent the last few years of his life, it has been a true pleasure watching the vines grow. Constantly evolving and changing through the seasons, the vineyard is a constant reminder of the miracle of life, and the value that comes with love and loss.

One of Matthew’s last requests was to fund blood cancer research efforts at Stanford Hospital, where he received his treatment and bonded with the nurses and doctors who cared for him. Honoring his request, proceeds from our vineyard go towards the “Matthew Will Leukemia Research Fund”, and is a fitting way to celebrate his life in a very tangible and personal way.

Our Vineyard

Planted in 2013, the vineyard is only two acres and is 60% pinoit noir and 40% chardonnay. The Pinot Noir is made up of two clones, 2a and 667. The chardonnay is a single clone, Wente 72. Both varietals do well in the Edna Valley.

With one of California’s longest growing seasons, the small but fertile Edna Valley offers wines having the complex flavors associated with California’s great cool-climate regions. Located in the southern corner of San Luis Obispo County, the valley is most famous for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir production. Edna Valley’s grape history began with Spanish missionaries 240 years ago.
